Virgin Mary, Sergius of Radonezh, St. George, Cosmas and Damian, Antique Russian Icon, end of XIX - beginning of XX century. Size - 11.8'x10' (30x25.5 cm)

Venerable Sergius of Radonezh  (14 May 1314 – 25 September 1392) also transliterated as Sergey Radonezhsky or Serge of Radonezh, was a spiritual leader and monastic reformer of medieval Russia. Together with Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, he is one of the Russian Orthodox Church’s most highly venerated saints.

According to Christian traditions, Saints Cosmas and Damian (also written Kosmas and Damianos) (died ca. 287) were twin brothers, physicians, and early Christian martyrs born in Cilicia, part of today's Turkey. They practiced their profession in the seaport of Ayas,Adana, then in the Roman province of Syria. Accepting no payment for their services led to them being named "Ανάργυροι" (Unmercenary); it has been said that, by this, they attracted many to the Christian faith.
